Symptoms
- Numbness or pins and needles beyond where the nerve is cut
- The fingers and thumb of the hand may stop moving if the cut is on your wrist or higher
- You may notice the absence of sweating of your finger or hand
Surgery
- If the nerve damage is picked up quickly the nerve may be repaired surgically
- If the nerve repair is picked up late you may need a nerve graft to repair the nerve
After Care
- No exercise for 48 hours
- Leave your dressings dry and intact until you return to clinic
- If you shower keep the hand and arm above the level of the shoulder out of the water
- Take simple over the counter pain relief like Paracetamol or Nurofen for 48 hours or more for any discomfort
- No driving until you are taken out of splint at 3 weeks
