Carpal/Cubital Tunnel Release

Symptoms

  • Tingling in the fingers mainly at night, but can progress to all day and night
  • Numbness in the fingers
  • Clumsiness of the hand

Surgery

  • If less than 6 weeks the treatment is splinting alone
  • If more than 6 weeks but less than 12 weeks the treatment is splinting and steroid injection
  • If more than 12 weeks the recommended treatment is release of the ligament that the nerve passes under with local or general anaesthetic

After Care

  • No exercise for 48 hours
  • Leave your dressings dry and intact until you return to clinic
  • If you shower keep the hand and arm above the level of the shoulder out of the water
  • Take simple over the counter pain relief like Paracetamol or Nurofen for 48 hours or more for any discomfort
  • No driving until you are seen in clinic
