Carpal/Cubital Tunnel Release
Symptoms
- Tingling in the fingers mainly at night, but can progress to all day and night
- Numbness in the fingers
- Clumsiness of the hand
Surgery
- If less than 6 weeks the treatment is splinting alone
- If more than 6 weeks but less than 12 weeks the treatment is splinting and steroid injection
- If more than 12 weeks the recommended treatment is release of the ligament that the nerve passes under with local or general anaesthetic
After Care
- No exercise for 48 hours
- Leave your dressings dry and intact until you return to clinic
- If you shower keep the hand and arm above the level of the shoulder out of the water
- Take simple over the counter pain relief like Paracetamol or Nurofen for 48 hours or more for any discomfort
- No driving until you are seen in clinic
